I met you when I was young and pretty

When he put the ring upon my finger
Two people became as one

In sickness and in health
I think of your sweetness, gentleness and compassion
When he listened to and guided me.

And when I dream I remember
My lifetime of happiness with him
And remember the day when we met each other
And I’m grateful that he chose me.

There could have been others
But there never was any
We were united in heart and mind,
I held your hand and trusted you always
And he will love me in spite of my faults

Our greatest joy was being together
And leaving the world behind
We faced our sadness, our tears, enjoyed our laughter
We loved and held each other, sometimes we wept
As we journeyed through the years

He listened quietly to my despair
He always spoke lovingly to me
And I know how life hurt him
But he always sheltered and encouraged me.

I think of our long and happy years
And the tears come to my eyes
But our love was deep and I will join him
And live out the rest of our lives
