Dreaming

The doors they clang shut behind you
but you do not seem to know
I see in your eyes that you are dreaming
Of a time long ago.

I lift your head off your pillow
And hold you close to my heart,
But you are happy and far away
In a gentler kinder land

Your loved ones are there to greet you.
They welcome you again, my love
And oh! How I long to keep you.
But you are happy and home.

The doors clang shut behind you
But you are dreaming of your time with me.
My tears fall on your pale, tired hands
And I hope he dreams of me

Oh, how could you leave him alone to dream.
When he was so kind and good to you.
But when you’re old and start your dreaming
You will find us waiting for you.
